Orange Opens BIG EAST Play Against UConn

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 5/6 Syracuse opens BIG EAST play on Friday, Mar. 22 when it hosts rv/rv Connecticut in the Carrier Dome. Game time is set for 3 p.m. The Orange, the preseason favorite to win the league, is 3-2 this season, while the Huskies are a perfect 6-0. Admission to the game is free of charge.
The game will be broadcast live on WJPZ 89.1FM in the Syracuse area. Fans can follow the action on SUathletics.com with live video and audio on Orange All Access as well as live stats. Subscriptions to Orange All Access are available at daily, monthly and yearly rates.
SISTER ACT
Syracuse freshman Brenna Rainone will see a familiar face on the Connecticut sideline. Her older sister, Mackenzie, is a senior midfielder for the Huskies. Both are graduates of Westhill High School in Syracuse.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse shut out Towson in the second half on its way to a 10-3 victory in Towson, Md. on Saturday, Mar. 9.
The Orange led by one, 4-3, at halftime and quickly increased its lead on Kayla Treanor's goal 32 seconds into the second half. Syracuse would score six unanswered goals after intermission to post its second road win of the year.
SU's defense played a large role in the victory as it forced 25 turnovers. The Orange's aggressive rides on clears allowed the Tigers to convert just 6-of-13 attempts.
Sophomore Kelsey Richardson made her first career start in goal for Syracuse and recorded two saves. Junior Alyssa Costantino made four saves in the second half.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Connecticut is currently undefeated this season with a 6-0 record. The Huskies are coming off a 19-8 win against Binghamton last weekend in Storrs.
Lauren Kahn leads the Huskies in scoring this season with 30 points on 16 goals and a team-high 14 assists. Kacey Pippitt also has 16 goals. Goalkeeper Shannon Nee has started each game this season, posting an 8.10 goals-against average and registering 25 saves.
Katie Woods is in her third season as head coach for the Huskies. She has led Connecticut to a record of 25-13.
SERIES RECORD
Syracuse is undefeated against Connecticut, posting a record of 15-0 in the series. Last season the Orange defeated the Huskies, 20-8, in Storrs. Junior Alyssa Murray (West Babylon, N.Y.) led the SU offense with eight points on seven goals and an assist.
