HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Syracuse cross country team started the 2013 season off with a pair of wins, taking first place in both the men's and women's race at the Harry Lang Invitational on Saturday morning. Margo Malone and Juris Silenieks were the overall winners for their respective races.
The SU men's squad split into an A and B team, which finished in first and second place, respectively. The first eleven finishers were wearing Orange, all finishing within ten seconds of each other. Silenkis, the overall winner, finished with a time of 20:33.00 in the 6400 meter race. The SU A team had a team score of 15, the lowest possible in the event.
Malone made her move in the last mile of the women's race to take first place with a time of 15:39.30 (4200 meters). Brianna Nerud was 12 seconds behind her to take third place. The team finished with a score of 22 off of first, third, fifth, sixth and seventh place finishes.
The cross country team competes again next weekend at the Dartmouth Invitational in Hanover, N.H. starting at 10:00 a.m.
