Orange, Irish Meet in ACC Quarterfinals

Syracuse and Notre Dame will play for the second time in six days.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- No. 1/2 Syracuse will make its ACC Women's Lacrosse Tournament debut against No. 13/10 Notre Dame in the quarterfinals on Thursday, April 24 at Boston College. The Orange earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament, while the Fighting Irish is the No. 7 seed. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.

What to Watch For -- Syracuse (15-1, 6-1)
1. The Orange earned a share of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) regular-season title after defeating Notre Dame. Syracuse posted a 6-1 record in its first year in the league. The Orange is going for its second consecutive conference tournament title. Syracuse won the 2013 BIG EAST Tournament, defeating Georgetown in the finals. The Orange also won the BIG EAST crown in 2007 and 2008.
2. Senior Alyssa Murray continues to build her legacy, recently joining the 200 goal club. Murray's three goals against Notre Dame gave her a career total of 201. She is the fourth Syracuse player to score 200 career goals and only second player in program history to record 300 points, 200 goals and 100 assists in her career.
3. Syracuse dominated the circle in the team's last match up, winning 22-of-30 draw controls. Junior Kailah Kempney recorded six, increasing her season total to 81.
What to Watch For – Notre Dame (9-7, 2-5)
1. Like the Syracuse, Notre Dame will appear in its first ACC tournament. The team finished 2-5 in ACC play this year and has made two NCAA Tournament appearances under head coach Christine Halfpenny.
2. Freshman standout Cortney Fortunato leads the Fighting Irish in points (54), goals (42) and assists (13). She scored twice against the Orange last Saturday.
3. Goalkeeper Liz O'Sullivan played the majority of the time in net for Notre Dame against Syracuse and recorded seven saves.
THE SERIES
Syracuse leads the all-time series against Notre Dame 14-5. The Orange defeated the Fighting Irish 18-10 last weekend in Notre Dame, Ind.. The tournament game will be the second time the teams meet in six days.
UP NEXT…
The winner of the contest will advance to the semifinals where it will either face No.4/4 North Carolina or No. 6/5 Boston College.
