The Syracuse hockey team will embark on the second half of its season exactly one month after playing its last game – a 4-2 win over RIT – that sent the Orange into break in second place in the CHA, having played nine-of-20 games against league opponents.
Starting the Second Half
- Syracuse will play its first game in a month on Tuesday when the team travels to Hamilton, N.Y. to take on Colgate.
- It's the start of an eight-game road trip, which is tied for the longest in school history.
- It's also the fourth-of-seven games against teams from New York, with Syracuse entering the matchup 2-1-0 against in-state rivals.
'Cuse vs. 'Gate
- SU is 5-4-1 all-time against the Raiders.
- The Orange is 2-3-0 at Starr Arena.
- SU has won the last four meetings with Colgate, including the season opener this season (a 2-1 win) with the Orange last losing to the Raiders on Jan. 2, 2012.
- 15 current members of the Orange have recorded points against Colgate.

- The Orange used goals from Eleanor Haines and Julie Knerr to jump out to a 2-0 lead before Colgate got one back late in the third, the only blemish in goaltender Jenn Gilligan's debut which she made 20 saves.
Freshmen Phenoms
- Freshman forwards Stephanie Grossi, Alysha Burriss and Emily Costales have made an immediate impact on the Orange up front, while teammates Megan Quinn and Dakota Derrer have each played every game on the blue line
- Grossi and Burriss (who are first and second on the Orange with 17 and 14 points respectively) make 'Cuse one of three teams with a pair of freshmen leading the team in scoring (joining Colgate and Minnesota State).
- Additionally, Grossi and Burriss are one of only three freshmen tandems to combine for 30 points. Joining Kenzie Kent and Tori Sullivan from Boston College (39 combined pts.) and Minnesota's Kelly Pannek and Cara Piazza (32 combined pts.)
Burriss Named CHA Player of the Week... And Month for December.
- Following her hat trick against RIT in the final game before winter break, freshman Alysha Burriss earned CHA Player of the Week honors and followed that up a week later by being crowned CHA Rookie of the Month.
- She and freshman Stephanie Grossi earned the Rookie of the Month award in back-to-back months.

- Junior forward Melissa Piacentini has been clutch in extra-man opportunities for the Orange so far this season.
- Piacentini ranks tied for second in the nation and tied for the CHA lead with five power play goals.
- Piacentini has accounted for 56 percent of Syracuse's power play goals this season.
