Men Prep for Title Defense at Wisconsin Adidas Invitational

37 ranked teams between men and women to square off in Madison.
On Friday, 37 combined ranked teams in the men's and women's USTFCCCA Poll will make their way to Madison, Wis. for the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational. Known as one of the nation's top events annually, the Orange men return to the course in hopes of claiming the title for the second year in a row.
Top Competition
- Between the men's and women's races on Friday, there will be 37 ranked teams competing.
- 30 of the 36 teams set to compete on the men's side are at least receiving votes in the USTFCCCA Poll, with six of the top-10 teams all scheduled to compete in Wisconsin.
- No. 2 Syracuse is the top-ranked team in competition, with No. 4 Stanford, No. 5 Iona, No. 7 Virginia, No. 8 Michigan and No. 9 BYU the other top-10 teams in attendance on the men's side.
- In the women's race, there will be 24 teams receiving votes in total competing.
- No. 1 New Mexico is the top-ranked team in attendance, with nine of the top-15 schools competing, including the Orange at No. 15.
Title Defense
- Last season, nineteen different ranked teams competed, with the Orange coming out on top. Overall the team finished with 85 points, followed by Iona (154 points), Wisconsin (176 points), Portland (211 points), and Stanford (220).
- The top finisher for the Orange, Martin Hehir ran 23:55 and placed 7th overall, while fellow returners Justyn Knight (14th/ 24:05), and Dan Lennon (24th/ 24:09) all placed within the top 25.
- The Syracuse men are the only team on either side to ever win multiple team titles, after Syracuse took the inaugural race in 2009 and won again last season.
- The women's team won the 2010 title.
- Both teams have competed in every Wisconsin Adidas Invitational since its inception in 2009.
- In the championship women's 6K last season, Syracuse finished 12th overall (403 points), with Margo Malone running 20:25 to place 23rd. Following Malone, Sydney Leiher placed 54th (20:46), and Maura Linde finished 105 (21:16).
Bennie Coming On Strong
- Sophomore Colin Bennie has had a strong start to the season after winning the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, and following that up with a fourth-place finish at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown.
- Bennie earned USTFCCCA National Performer of the Week for his race at Penn State to open his season.
Ranking the Orange
- Both the men's and women's teams enter this weekend with their highest ranks of the season.
- The men are tied for their best rank in program history at No. 2, while the women's team sits at No. 15 in the latest USTFCCCA Poll.
The women's race is scheduled to kick off the day at Noon ET on Friday, with the men's race slated for a 12:45 ET start.
