Orange Returns Home Sunday Against Louisville

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- After starting out Atlantic Coast Conference play with three road games against top-10 teams, the Syracuse women's soccer team returns home to the SU Soccer Stadium to play Louisville in ACC play on Sunday, Oct. 4 at noon.
During the opening week of conference play, Syracuse (4-7-1, 0-3 ACC) traveled on the road to face off against No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 North Carolina and No. 10 Virginia Tech. The Orange are excited to be back at home on Sunday when the squad takes on Louisville (5-5-1, 1-2-0 ACC).
"When you play in the ACC, you obviously expect tough competition," head coach Phil Wheddon said. "It's unfortunate to get three such good teams on the road in a row, but it was a good test for us and we are excited to come back home to Syracuse and play."
The Orange are looking for its first conference win of the season against the Cardinals after having been outscored 11-2 thus far in ACC play. Louisville's only win in ACC play came against Miami (3-7-0, 0-3-0 ACC) in a 1-0 victory.
LAST TIME OUT
Syracuse took on ACC opponent Virginia Tech, losing to the No. 9 team in the nation by a final score of 3-1.
The Orange were outshot by the Hokies, 15-8, and Virginia Tech tallied five more corners. Syracuse's Courtney Bronson had four saves.
The Hokies scored two of their goals in the first half, holding the Orange scoreless until the 44th minute. Virginia Tech has outscored its opponents 27-11 this season, outshooting the competition by a total of 200-102.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Louisville is coming off a 1-0 win over Morehead State in non-conference play, bringing its overall record this season to 5-5-1. Casey Whitfield, Alison Price and Rachel Avant lead the offensive charge this season for the Cardinals, combining for 16 points. Whitfield leads the way with two goals and six points for Louisville.
Louisville Goalkeepers Paige Brown and Taylor Bucklin have split time in net for the Cardinals. Each has two wins on the season, and Brown has recorded shutouts in both of her victories.
Thus far this season, the Cardinals have tied their opponents 11-11. However, they have outshot their opponents 115-118, creating a number of scoring opportunities in each match.
TAKING ON THE BEST OF THE BEST
For the first time in program history, the Orange played the No. 1 team and No. 2 team in the nation in consecutive games.The Orange's five matchups with ranked opponents have taken place on the road.
Five of the top-10 teams in the nation belong to the ACC. The Orange just played three of them in one week on the road.
There are still two more teams on the Orange schedule that belong to the top 25, including #14 Notre Dame who just beat #1 Virginia by a final score of 1-0.
