10/22/2015 2:04:00 PM | Cross Country
After posting strong results at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational last weekend, Syracuse's No. 2 men's cross country team and No. 16 women's cross country team will both return to action this weekend at the John Reif Memorial.
Orange at the John Reif Memorial
- There are no team scores at the John Reif Memorial, but the Orange has had solid performances every year at the event.
- Last season, Kevyn Hoyos won the men's five-mile race and set a new Moakley course record in 24:48.50.
- Hoyos has won the last-two John Reif Memorial races.
- The Orange swept the top-five, with Mickey Burke, Andrew Bennison, Philo Germano and T.J. Hornberger following behind Hoyos in succession.
- On the women's side last season, Syracuse put four runners in the top-five, led by Angelica Peck's second-place finish. She was followed by Karina Ernst, 'Cuse alum Molly Malone and Mary Malone in third through fifth respectively.
- Peck also led the Orange in 2013 with a second-place finish.
Ranking the Orange
- The Syracuse men remained at No. 2 in this week's USTFCCCA standings, securing a first place vote for the first time in program history.
- The Orange's first-place vote marks an end to Colorado's streak as a unanimous No. 1, which spanned back to the final poll of 2013.
- The women's team currently sits at No. 16 in the poll, back one spot after finishing 11th at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational.
Wisco Repeat
- The men's squad won its second-straight title at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational last weekend, led by Justyn Knight (2nd), Martin Hehir (4th) and Colin Bennie (6th).
- Syracuse is the only program on either the men's or women's side to win multiple Wisconsin Adidas Invitationals, with the 'Cuse men securing three titles after winning the inaugural race in 2009 and going back-to-back in 2014 and 2015.
The John Reif Memorial takes place on the Moakley Course, which traverses across Cornell's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. The women will compete in a 5k, while the men will run a five-mile race. The women will run at 4:30 p.m., while the men will follow 30 minutes later.
