SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Sophomore Sheridan Street scored the game-winning goal for the Syracuse women's soccer team against Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon, lifting the Orange to its third consecutive win in Atlantic Coast Conference play with the 1-0 win over the Demon Deacons.
Street's goal came in the 24th minute, propelling Syracuse (7-10-1, 3-6 ACC) to its third straight win over ACC foes at the SU Soccer Stadium. Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan registered her third clean sheet of the season by making five saves in net to keep Wake Forest (4-12-2, 1-8-0) scoreless.
"We give credit to Wake Forest. They are a tough, well-coached team," head coach Phil Wheddon said. "Both teams fought hard and we are thrilled to come away with the result."
The Orange outshot the Demon Deacons 11-8 in the contest, including a 6-5 edge in shots on target. Whenever Wake Forest had a scoring opportunity, Brosnan came up big for Syracuse, turning aside any shot that came her way.
The win for Syracuse improves its home record to 6-2-1 this season.
For Wake Forest, Lindsay Preston matched Brosnan with five saves, but Street's goal was the difference-maker to give the Orange the result.
The Orange will honor its seniors at its last regular season contest when the team takes on Clemson on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 pm. Live stats can be accessed via Cuse.com.
