The Syracuse hockey team donated its proceeds from the Skate for a Cure week to Upstate Cancer Center today
The Syracuse hockey team presented the proceeds from their annual Skate for the Cure campaign to the Upstate Cancer Center on Wednesday.
The Orange, who donned special pink jerseys in its weekend series with Robert Morris at the culmination of the week, fundraised $3,208 during Skate for the Cure week by seeking donations across campus, at a Syracuse Crunch game and at its own games.
Syracuse seniors Amanda Cariddi, Akane Hosoyamada, Julie Knerr and Allie LaCombe presented the check at the hospital and were given a tour of the facility that their donations go to.
The Skate for the Cure has been a Syracuse tradition, in which they designate one week of their season to fundraise for cancer research. Prior to the 2012-13 season, proceeds from all CHA schools were pooled into one cancer treatment center in conjunction with hosting the CHA Tournament. Upstate Cancer Center was the recipient in 2011 when 'Cuse hosted the event.
Since 2013, in an effort to donate the proceeds to local organizations, CHA teams have donated the money they raise to a charity of their choice individually instead of pooled together in a league donation. Syracuse hockey has donated $8,183 to the Upstate Cancer Center in those three seasons.
