First of five games on international trip
VIENNA – The Syracuse University women's basketball team opened its international tour with a 102-29 victory against the Vienna Basket Flames on Monday night. Six players scored in double figures for the Orange in its first of five games in Europe.
"It was good," associate head coach Vonn Read stated. "We had a long plane trip over. It was good to get our girls out, run the floor, and be able to do the things we do we are going to try to do this year."
Junior guard Alexis Peterson, a 2015 All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection, led all scorers with 15 points on the night. Freshman forward Jade Phillips registered 13 points, with nine coming on 3-point field goals. Senior guard Brianna Butler also knocked down two from long range en route to a 12-point effort.
Syracuse got off to a hot start against the Basket Flames. Thanks to eight first-quarter points from senior forward Taylor Ford, the Orange led 27-12 after the opening 10 minutes of play.
After scoring 12 points in the first quarter of action, Vienna would struggle to figure out the Syracuse defense. Syracuse would go on to outscore the Basket Flames, 75-17, over the final 30 minutes of play.
