Eight games at the Carrier Dome in November and December
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Eight contests at the Carrier Dome and trips to 2015 national semifinalist Maryland, the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas, and eight-time national champion Tennessee highlight the Syracuse University women's basketball 2015-16 non-conference schedule.
Â
"This non-conference schedule provides us with tough contests against top teams from major conferences," head coach Quentin Hillsman stated. "It will certainly prepare us for ACC action and postseason play."
Â
The 13-game schedule features three teams that were ranked in the top 10 of the final 2014-15 USA Today Coaches Poll. Arizona State, Maryland, Tennessee, and Washington all participated in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, as well.
Â
For the second time in the past three years, Syracuse will open the year on the road when it plays Rhode Island on Nov. 13. The women's basketball team will be the third Syracuse program to open against the Rams in 2015-16, joining the football and volleyball teams.
Â
The Orange will play Alcorn State in its home opener on Nov. 16 before hitting the road for Knoxville, Tenn. SU and the Lady Vols will meet on Nov. 20 and the contest will be broadcast nationally on the SEC Network.
Â
Syracuse will host Morgan State on Nov. 23 before departing for Las Vegas for the South Point Shootout. The squad will play Washington and Fordham on Nov. 27 and 28, respectively.
Â
After its Big Ten/ACC Challenge contest at Maryland on Dec. 2, Syracuse will play six straight home games in the Carrier Dome. The Orange kick off the homestand with three contests in one week, highlighted by a visit from Arizona State on Dec. 12.
Â
Syracuse will conclude non-conference play on Dec. 31 against East Tennessee State. Other non-conference opponents include Stony Brook (Dec. 6), Coppin State (Dec. 9), Jacksonville (Dec. 21), and Drexel (Dec. 29).
Â
Last season, Syracuse made its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, a program-first. The Orange won its first-round contest for the second year in-a-row, defeating Nebraska. In total, Syracuse finished the 2014-15 season with a 22-10 overall record and 11-5 mark in ACC action. The program recorded its highest ranking in the Associated Press Poll in program history in 2014-15, following an 8-1 start to the year. Syracuse checked in at No. 19 nationally, one spot shy of matching its highest appearance in either major national poll.
