Orange Take Second at Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational

Colin Bennie takes the individual title
The Syracuse men and women's cross country teams each took second at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on Friday.
Colin Bennie took the individual men's title for the No. 3 'Cuse men, becoming the third member of the Syracuse cross country programs to take home an individual title at the event, with Margo Malone leading the No. 17 women's team with a second-place finish.
Dan Busby in 2008 and Sydney Leiher last season were the other Syracuse individual champions at the meet.
Behind Bennie, who won the race by a full-10 seconds in 25:20, Dan Lennon placed fourth (25:37), Joel Hubbard took sixth (25:42), Shawn Wilson finished 15th (26:05) and Philo Germano placed 16th (26:08) to round out the scoring.
Joe Kush (17th/26:10) and T.J. Hornberger (19th/26:23) were the sixth and seventh competitors for the Orange.
No. 12 Michigan edged out the Orange 35 points to Syracuse's 42.
Behind Malone, Sydney Leiher finished fifth (21:41), Maura Linde (22:03) took eighth, Cassia Hameline finished ninth (22:05) and Stephanie Bitcon placed 10th (22:06) to round out the scoring.
Alexandra Cooper (11th/22:12) and Beth Wright (18th/22:49) finished sixth and seventh for the Orange.
No. 23 Penn State recorded 21 points to win, ahead of Syracuse's 34 points. West Virginia took third with 89 points.
Next up, Syracuse will head to the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Sept. 25.
