
Knight, Syracuse men win Coast-to-Coast Battle

The No. 3 Syracuse cross country team won the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown behind putting three runners in the top-four and five in the top-10. The 19th-ranked women took second overall at the meet.
Sophomore Justyn Knight won the overall race in 23:51, followed closely by senior Martin Hehir and sophomore Colin Bennie, who both crossed the line at the same time (23:55.0) in third and fourth respectively.
Joel Hubbard took sixth (24:11.0) and Dan Lennon finished 10th (24:17) to round out the Orange scoring.
Philo Germano (24:26.0/16th), Shawn Wilson (24:26.0/17th) rounded out the top-seven, with Mickey Burke (35th) and Juris Silenieks (44th) and Kevyn Hoyos (62nd) also competing for the Orange.
The 'Cuse men collected 24 points in the win, well ahead of second-place Dartmouth's 67.
Malone came in second in the women's varsity 5K with a time of 16:51 to lead the team to its second-place finish to lead the team.
Behind Malone, Sydney Leiher turned in a 13th-place finish (17:24), Maura Linde placed 28th (17:38), Cassia Hameline finished 32nd (17:42) and Stephanie Bitcon finished 52nd (17:58) to complete the scoring.
Providence won the race with 42 points, with Syracuse collecting 127.
The men also raced in the B Race 5K. Adam Palamar and TJ Hornberger took first and third in that race.
Next up for the Orange is the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Oct. 16, where the Orange men look to defend its title.
