Syracuse off to best start since 2012
Senior forward Emma Russell notched the 48th goal of her career in No. 2 Syracuse's 5-0 win over Yale, passing Lindsey Conrad and making her Syracuse's all-time leading goal scorer.
Russell intercepted a Yale outlet pass and scored an unassisted goal to break the record. It's her sixth goal in seven games this season.
"What a great individual accomplishment," said head coach Ange Bradley. "I'm so proud of her to be able to achieve that while playing in the ACC for three of her four years, it just shows how special she is."
The Orange moved to 7-0 on the season, which is the team's best start since 2012, and saw five different student-athletes record goals in the contest.
'Cuse dominated much of the contest, outshooting Yale 36-6 and putting 26 shots on cage. The Orange also drew 12 corners.
Liverpool, N.Y. native Emma Lamison got the Syracuse scoring started nine minutes into the game on a pass from Alma Fenne. It was Lamison's fifth point of the weekend after recording the game-winning goal and an assist against No. 11 Boston College on Saturday.
Less than three minutes later, Roos Weers connected for a goal, with Zoe Wilson dishing out the assist to head into the locker room maintaining a 2-0 lead.
Just over one minute into the second half, Russell notched her record-breaking goal to continue the Syracuse attack.
Freshman Niki Neidhart scored her first collegiate goal with under-four minutes to play and senior Alyssa Manley scored on a penalty stroke in the waning seconds to give Syracuse the 5-0 final result.
Senior goalkeeper Jess Jecko made four saves in the contest for the Orange for her third shutout in seven games this season.
Syracuse continues ACC play on Friday at 4 p.m. when the Orange hosts No. 4 Virginia in a key conference matchup.
