Second honor of her collegiate career
CONWAY, S.C. – Senior guard Alexis Peterson of the Syracuse women's basketball team was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Second Team, the league announced on Sunday afternoon. It marks the second consecutive year that Peterson has collected such honors.
In two games played, Peterson averaged 19.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per contest. The senior guard opened postseason play with a 29-point, seven-rebound, and six-assist effort against North Carolina on March 2. She followed that up by setting the program's all-time assists record against Duke on March 3.
A child and family studies major in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, Peterson has continued to put together an impressive list of accolades this season. She has been named a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award and Dawn Staley Award, on the national ballot for the John R. Wooden Award, recognized on the midseason watch lists for the Naismith Trophy and Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, and appeared on the Wade Trophy watch list.
The Columbus, Ohio native became the first player in Syracuse women's basketball history to earn conference player of the year honors when she collected 2017 Blue Ribbon Panel Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year plaudits. In addition, she notched All-ACC accolades for the third straight year.
On the 2016-17 campaign, Peterson averages 23.3 points, 7.1 assists, and 3.0 steals per contest. She has scored a program single-season record 721 points on the year. The senior guard is five helpers shy of matching the Syracuse single-season record, as well.
In 132 games played in her collegiate career, Peterson has scored 1,928 points, which ranks second in program history. She has dished out 578 assists in her time on campus, the top mark in Orange women's basketball history.
No. 21/20 Syracuse awaits its postseason fate. The 2017 NCAA Tournament field will be revealed on Monday, March 13.
