Allie Munroe to participate while Alison Domenico will coach at selection camps
CALGARY, Alta. – Syracuse ice hockey continues to possess an international presence as two members of the Orange family are set to participate in Canada's National Women's Development Team and National Women's Under-18 Team selection camps from Aug. 5-13 in Calgary.
Rising junior Allie Munroe, along with 24 other invitees, will participate in the National Women's Development Team selection camp. Syracuse assistant coach Alison Domenico will work as one of the coaches for the National Women's Under-18 Team selection camp.
As part of the National Team's Summer Showcase, 25 development team invitees and 42 under-18 invitees will compete for spots on the national team to represent Canada in international competition this season.
This marks the second consecutive year that Munroe has participated in both Canada's National Women's Program strength and conditioning camp (May 4-8) and the Development Team selection camp.
During her sophomore campaign, Munroe led all defensemen in points (21), goals (seven), assists (14) and ranked second in blocks (38). Her points total was third highest in the CHA and 14th highest in the country among defensemen, earning her the CHA Best Defenseman Award along with All-CHA First Team honors.
Munroe currently ranks tied for third in Syracuse program history for most career goals by a defenseman with 11 and sits in seventh for most career points by a defenseman with 31.
Domenico looks to start her seventh season as an assistant coach at Syracuse. In her six years with the program, the Orange have advanced to the CHA Championship game four times and played in the semifinals the other two years.
Prior to her time at Syracuse, Domenico played four seasons at St. Lawrence University from 2005-09. She played in 153 career games and is tied for first on the Saints all-time record list for career power play goals with 29. The forward helped her team to four ECAC Tournaments and four NCAA Tournament appearances, reaching the Frozen Four in 2006 and 2007.
She will coach 42 members of the under-18 camp, which will split into two teams, Red and Black. The players will participate in practices, two intrasquad games and off-ice training. The teams will play the under-18 team from Russia as an opportunity to showcase their talent before 23 players are selected to play for Canada's National Women's Under-18 Team in a three-game series against the United States, Aug. 17-20 in Lake Placid, N.Y.
