Orange Display Academic Success in Spring Semester
5/21/2018 10:40:00 AM | Ice Hockey
It was quite the season off the ice for the Orange as the student-athletes demonstrated their academic success and community involvement throughout the 2017-18 school year.
Â
Syracuse ice hockey placed a program record 20 student-athletes on the spring 2018 Athletic Director's Honor Roll. The Athletic Director's Honor Roll recognizes the outstanding academic accomplishments of Syracuse University student-athletes. To earn recognition, student-athletes must achieve at least a 3.0 grade point average for a semester.
Â
Additionally, two of the ice hockey student-athletes earned special recognition at the 2018 'Cuse Awards, held on May 1.
Â
Senior captain Stephanie Grossi was the recipient of the Soladay Award, an honor bestowed on the male and female student-athletes who epitomize all of the positives in intercollegiate athletics and best exemplify the essence of Doris R. Soladay.Â
Â
The Winnipeg native is Syracuse's all-time leader in points (117) and assists (72) and second in career goals (45). She earned the 2017-18 CHA Defensive Forward of the Year and Individual Sportsmanship Awards. Grossi is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and she has been active in the community, including volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club and the Ronald McDonald House.
Â
Redshirt sophomore Lindsay Eastwood received the Syracuse 8 Courage Award, which is presented to a student-athlete who has overcome challenges and demonstrated bravery in the face of adversity. Eastwood recovered from a rare autoimmune disease which kept her from competing in her first year at Syracuse to become a two year starter. She earned a spot on the 2016-17 CHA All-Rookie team in her first year back on the ice and this past season was named All-CHA Second Team.
Â
Grossi was also one of two Syracuse recipients of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, a monetary scholarship that rewards the Association's most accomplished student-athletes through their involvement in athletics, academic achievements and campus/community involvement. She also earned the ACC Postgraduate Scholarship for her pursuit of a graduate education.
