A sweep of both team meets and individual races at the Harry Lang Invitational signaled a strong start to the 2018 season for the Syracuse cross country programs.

Highlighted by Nathan Henderson and Abigail Spiers winning the men's and women's races, respectively, the Orange showcased their depth in the first meet of the season.

Spiers led the 'Cuse women to take the top-nine spots as Syracuse distanced themselves early from Colgate to easily win the event. Spiers (17:40.4) edged out a lead group of three Orange women who had gotten out in front of the pack. Mary Malone (17:41.9) and Ellie Lawler (17:44.4) were right behind Spiers. Kelsey Potts (18:00.2), Julien Webster (18:04.4), Maggie Toczko (18:06.6), Emma Wilson (18:24.3), Eva Scott (18:38.1) and Olivia Elston (18:50.6), all finished in succession to sweep the top-nine spots. Kayli Jones (19:27.0) took 12th for the dominant Orange.

For the men, Henderson, Stephen Schulz and Joey Eovaldi paced the Orange to sweep the top-three spots. Declan Kottmeier (fifth), Matt Cavallaro (eighth) and Pierce Miller (ninth), also turned in top-10 performances for SU.

Syracuse returns to action on Friday at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State.
