SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Junior netminder Allison Small earned Conference Hockey America (CHA) Goaltender of the Week honors after helping Syracuse earn three points in its two-game series against Penn State over the weekend. Small was in the crease for both games and made 26 stops in Syracuse's 1-1 tie on Saturday before fighting off 21 shots and helping her side get the 3-1 victory on Sunday.
Â
The Nestleton, Ontario, native made 47 saves over the weekend, and Sunday's game was her first win of the year. Small's efforts also helped 'Cuse extend its unbeaten streak against the Nittany Lions to 20 games.
Â
This is the fourth weekly and second consecutive conference honor Syracuse has picked up this season. Small's recognition comes following junior forward Victoria Klimek earning Player of the Week honors after a two-point day against St. Lawrence on Nov. 16. Freshman defender Mae Batherson earned Rookie of the Week honors following her three-point (2G, 1A) weekend against RIT Nov. 1-2, and junior defender Jessica DiGirolamo was named Player of the Week on Oct. 7 after scoring one goal and logging two assists against No. 7 Boston College.
Â
Small and the Orange return to the ice Tuesday night when they host Cornell at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Parking and admission are free, and the game can be seen live at Cuse.tv.
