WINTHROP, Mass. - Three awards, three winners.
After sweeping the weekend series at Mercyhurst, the Syracuse women's hockey team has swept College Hockey America's weekly awards, the conference announced Monday, Feb. 11. Senior defenseman Allie Munroe has been named Player of the Week for the first time this season, while freshman forward Abby Moloughney was recognized as Rookie of the Week for the first time.
Junior goaltender Ady Cohen rounded out the trio, picking up Goalie of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
Syracuse won both games at Mercyhurst last weekend, and it would not have happened without contributions from Munroe, Moloughney and Cohen. Munroe led the Orange in scoring over the two games, logging six points on one goal and five assists. The Orange's co-captain had three assists in Friday's thrilling 6-5 win before scoring a shorthanded goal and carding two assists in Saturday's 4-0 victory.
Moloughney, meanwhile, was the top rookie scorer in the conference last weekend, totaling three points in the two wins. She scored the opening goal in Friday's win and recorded two assists Saturday.
Cohen was dominant between the pipes in Saturday's shutout victory. One day after the Lakers scored five goals, Cohen silenced their attack with 21 saves in net. It is her first career shutout.
Munroe, Moloughney and Cohen, as well as the rest of the Orange, will look to continue their late-season push this weekend. The Orange face the Tigers in a home-and-home series next, with the first game taking place in Rochester, N.Y. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15.
Syracuse and RIT complete the series inside Tennity Ice Pavilion at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16.
