Orange to Don Commemorative Jerseys in Honor of Sherry Goodnough

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - It's more than a game.
The Syracuse women's hockey team will don purple jerseys Friday night to honor Sherry Goodnough, who recently passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Sherry, mother of former hockey student-athlete Kaillie Goodnough ('15), was a passionate Orange supporter and a devoted hockey mom.
The commemorative jerseys display Syracuse in purple script across the chest with a purple ribbon – the symbol for pancreatic cancer awareness – included beneath. "Dig Deep" – a mantra that Sherry often used as a form of encouragement and motivation – is written on each jersey's nameplate.
"Sherry made Syracuse feel like home for all of the 'Cuse girls," assistant coach Julie Knerr said. "She was our mom away from home.
"She would cook for all of us every Thursday night on home weekends, and she opened her home to the team on any holiday that we were away from home. Sherry was the Syracuse hockey mom for this program."
Fans can bid to take home these jerseys during an auction, with proceeds benefiting SUNY Upstate Medical University's Upstate Cancer Center. All money raised is donated in honor and support of Sherry and her family.
Puck drop between the Orange and Lindenwood is set for 7 p.m. inside Tennity Ice Pavilion Admission and parking are free.
