SYRACUSE, N.Y. – During the month of February, the Syracuse women's basketball team is competing in the 2019 Play4Kay Free Throw Challenge, benefitting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Universities from across the country compete to see who can raise the most money for those battling cancer. Fans can join the competition by making a pledge per free throw made or by contributing a one-time donation.
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was started by the vision of the former passionate, inspiring, and extraordinary NC State Hall of Fame coach Kay Yow. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund mission is to extend and improve the lives of all women battling cancer by raising money for research and assisting the underserved. Since the Fund's inception in 2007, $7.53 million has been raised for scientific research focused on women's cancers.
'Cuse will host its annual Play4Kay/Girls and Women in Sports Day game on Sunday. There will be a pregame clinic beginning at 1 p.m. for youth 12 years and under in the back court hosted by female student-athletes at Syracuse from various teams including field hockey, volleyball, women's soccer, cheer and dance. Additionally there will be a craft area and selfie station.
Tip-off versus Boston College is scheduled for 2 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. Fans are encouraged to match the team and wear pink to the game in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
