Syracuse, N.Y. – Tiana Mangakahia is the sixth player in Syracuse women's basketball history to garner All-American honors. Mangakahia, who announced Monday that she will remain in school to complete her eligibility next season, is one of seven Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) players named to the Associated Press (AP) All-America Team and one of three who earned Honorable Mention honors.
Mangakahia led the way for the Orange by averaging 16.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game this season. She led the nation in assists through the regular season and was second in assists per game (8.4). Mangakahia recorded the first points-rebounds-assists triple double in program history when she tallied 34 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against North Carolina in January. She tied a career-high 44 against No. 22 Florida State in Syracuse's first-ever win in Tallahassee.
The Brisbane, Australia native guided Syracuse to a 25-9 overall record and its highest seed (No. 3) in the NCAA Tournament. In 65 career games, Mangakahia has scored 1,114 points and became the program leader in career assists with 591.
A finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which is given annually to the best point guard in NCAA Division I Women's Basketball, Mangakahia found herself amongst the nation's best as a member of the Wooden Award Late Season Watch List and the Citizen Naismith Trophy Midseason Team and was an All-ACC First Team honoree this year.
She is the first AP All-American since Alexis Peterson '17 was a member of the AP All-America Second Team in 2016-17. Mangakahia is the fourth AP All-American and fifth all-american during head coach Quentin Hillsman's tenure.
Syracuse season tickets start at $75 and are available for sale by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
