ESPN WAY-TOO-EARLY TOP-25
Syracuse, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's basketball team has high expectations next season after putting together one of the best seasons in program history this year finishing 25-9 overall, 11-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and earning its highest seed (No. 3) in program history for the NCAA Tournament. On Monday, the Orange were tabbed No. 10 in ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top-25 by Charlie Creme.
The Orange return All-American point guard Tiana Mangakahia and four of five starters that have started 65-straight games together. Despite loosing second-leading scorer Miranda Drummond, the Orange bring back a deep, young bench in 2019-2020.
Five other ACC teams are noted, with Syracuse earning the highest rank. Florida State checked in at No. 11 while Louisville is No. 14. The 2019 national runner up Notre Dame is No. 17 after losing all five starters to the WNBA Draft. NC State rounds out the list at No. 25 after putting together a program-best 21-0 start to begin this season despite major injuries.
Oregon, who returns Wooden Award and Wade Trophy winner Sabrina Ionescu, is projected as the No. 1 team entering next season while 2019 National Champion Baylor is second. Stanford, Maryland and Texas A&M round out the top-five.
Syracuse reached its seventh-straight NCAA Tournament, won its 700th game in program history and ranked as high as No. 12 this season. The Orange finished the season ranked No. 16 in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll and reached the NCAA Tournament Second Round for the third time in four years.
Syracuse season tickets start at $75 and are available for sale by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Limited Premium Courtside seats are still available and can be purchased by contacting a sales representative at 1-888-DOME-TIX.
