Trojan, Vestri Winners at Army in Season Opener

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Redshirt senior Jp Trojan and senior Amanda Vestri posted first-place finishes in Syracuse's season opener at Army on Saturday, Sept. 12.
The men's squad dominated the 7.5k race with the top nine finishers. Trojan crossed the finish line first with a time of 22:46.6, edging out teammate Nathan Henderson by .4 seconds. Senior Joe Dragon was third (22:48.9), followed by freshmen Silas Derfel (22:49.6) and Alex Comerford (22:55.7). Sophomore Noah Beveridge (22:58.8) and freshman Michael Phillips (22:59.4) rounded out the top seven.
Vestri won the women's race with a time of 16:42.2 on the three-mile course. Army took the second- and third-place spots followed by Orange freshman Sarah Connelly (17:43.3) and sophomore Justus Holden-Betts (17:47.7). The Black Knights had the remaining top 10 finishers to win the dual meet.
