Teisha Hyman made a case for ACC Player of the Week last Wednesday night when she scored a career-high 30 points and added six assists in Syracuse's 97-91 upset over #18 Ohio State in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. After Sunday's triple double, there was no doubt. And on Monday afternoon the redshirt-sophomore was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week for the first time in her career.Â
Hyman averaged a double-double in points and assists over a 2-0 week for the Orange that basically rewrote the Syracuse record books. Her 28.5 points and 10.5 assists per game combined with 6.0 steals and 5.0 rebounds per game helped lift 'Cuse to its first ranked win of the season followed by a program record for points scored in a game with the 116-65 win over Central Connecticut on Sunday afternoon.Â
The White Plains, N.Y., native shot 73.3 percent from the field (22-for-30) and was 6-for-8 from three-point range over the two-game stretch. Hyman was 12-for-18 from the floor on Wednesday night against the Buckeyes and connected on 10-of-12 shots and was a perfect 5-for-5 at the free thrown line with 27 points against Central Connecticut.Â
Hyman's triple double in points (27), assists (15) and steals (11) was the fifth triple-double in program history. Hyman's 11 steals against the Blue Devils broke a program record and her 15 assists tie for second in program history, just two helpers shy of tying the program record of 17 in a game.Â
She finished with eight rebounds, two shy of becoming the first player at Syracuse, on either the men's or women's side, to record a quadruple double. Additionally, she would have been the first Power 5 women's basketball player to have a quadruple double in NCAA Division I history.
Hyman is the first Syracuse player to earn ACC Player of the Week honors this season. The Orange are back in action Wednesday night for a non-conference game against Cornell at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at cuse.com/tickets and fans unable to attend can watch it live on ACCNX through the ESPN app.Â
