Alaysia Styles will join the Orange for the 2021-22 women's basketball season as a graduate transfer. Styles played her senior season at Maryland in 2020-21 after beginning her career at California where she was a three-year letterwinner for the Golden Bears.
Styles joined the Terrapins in the spring semester and saw action in 21 games where she averaged 4.9 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 60.5 percent from the field. She was a key player off the bench for Maryland, helping the Terps win both the Big Ten regular season and tournament title on the way to an NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen appearance.
The 6-foot-3 forward from San Diego, Calif., scored in 16 contests at Maryland and recorded a season-best 15 points in the B1G Tournament semifinal win over Northwestern where she shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the field.
Styles began her career at Cal where she appeared in 88 games for the Golden Bears in three seasons. She helped California to back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2018 and 2019, which resulted in two NCAA Tournament berths and a second-round appearance in 2019.
A four-star prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz out of high school, Styles was ranked the No. 90 overall player in the nation and 16th-ranked wing in the 2017 class. She averaged 20.9 points and 12.8 rebounds per game during her senior year at La Jolla Country Day school.
Styles is the seventh player to announce a transfer to Syracuse this offseason. Shalexxus Aaron, Jayla Thorton, Najé Murray, Eboni Walker, Christianna Carr and Chrislyn Carr have all been previously announced. The seven transfers join head coach Hillsman's No. 11 ranked recruiting class and three returners from last season's team that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
