The 14th-ranked Orange begin the 2021 fall campaign Friday at 1 p.m. against Sacred Heart at J.S. Coyne Stadium and return to action Sunday, at 2 p.m. against Vermont. Both games will be streamed live on ACCNX through the ESPN app. Admission is free to all regular season games at J.S. Coyne Stadium. All fans attending games and events must adhere to Syracuse University's COVID-19 policy, which can be found here.
Syracuse and Sacred Heart meet for the first regular season game in program history on Friday afternoon. The Orange are coming off an 8-8 season that was heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and featured an ACC heavy schedule. Sacred Heart played eight games, seven against NEC opponents, in the spring and posted a 3-5 record. The Pioneers will start its season on the road for the seventh-straight year.Â
Vermont is no stranger to the Orange; the two teams have played each other 13 times in program history with 'Cuse holding a 10-3 advantage in the all-time series. Last time the two met, Syracuse earned a thrilling 4-3 overtime win to begin the 2019 season at home. This season marks the third time in the last four years that the Orange face the Catamounts during opening weekend.Â
Syracuse is 14-0 in home openers during the Ange Bradley era and is 13-1 in season openers during that stretch. Last year, in Syracuse's only home game of the fall season the Orange defeated Louisville 2-1 handing the Cardinals their first loss of the season on Oct. 30.Â
