
Men Take 2nd; Women Sixth at ACC Championships

It was a strong ACC Championship meet for the Syracuse cross country teams.
In a loaded men's field that featured seven ranked squads and six of the nation's top-17 teams, the Orange men raced to a second-place finish. No. 8 Wake Forest won the team title, followed by the No. 16 Orange, who bested No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 12 NC State, No. 13 Virginia, No. 18 North Carolina and No. 29 Duke.
Nathan Lawler was the men's top finisher, taking seventh in 23:12.9. Noah Carey was 12th in 23:19.7 over the 8k race. Sam Lawler finished 19th to also earn All-ACC honors in a time of 23:24.0.
Paul O'Donnell was 'Cuse's fourth finisher in 23:26.4, which was 22nd overall. Nathan Henderson (26th/23:28.8), Alex Comerford (30th/23:36.2) and Matthew Scrape (34th/23:39.2) to round out the competition for the men.
Wake Forest won the team title with 44 points. Syracuse finished with 86, followed by North Carolina (87), Notre Dame (92) and NC State (118) in succession.
The women's team took sixth behind an All-ACC performance from Savannah Roark.
Roark finished in 15th, traversing the 6k course in 20:05.8. Sophia Jacobs-Townsley (20:31.4) took 34th, followed by Eleanor Lawler (20:40.0) and Ivy Gonzales (20:53.9) in 42nd and 49th, respectively. Abigail Spiers rounded out the scoring in 51st with a time of 20:57.6.
Olivia Joly (21:03.9/55th) and Shona McCulloch (21:05.8/57th) also competed for Syracuse.
'Cuse returns to the course in two weeks at the NCAA Northeast Regional.
