Eighteen Earn CHA All-Academic Honors

Syracuse's All-Time CHA All-Academic Selections
Graduate students Arielle DeSmet and Marielle McHale are College Hockey America All-Academic Team honorees for the fifth time in their careers and join 16 teammates on the 2022-23 CHA scholars list. The 18 honorees marks the fourth year in a row that the Orange have had at least that many earn CHA All-Academic Team honors. Student-athletes must achieve a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in both semesters during the 2022-23 academic year to achieve the honor.

A forward from Clifton Park, N.Y., McHale earned her master's degree in higher postsecondary education and her undergraduate degree in communication and rhetorical studies and played for two Syracuse CHA championship teams. DeSmet, a goaltender from Charlotte, Vt., earned her master's degree in forensic science during her two years at Syracuse and her undergraduate degree in criminal justice from Robert Morris in three years.

Three Orange forwards including Lauren Bellefontaine, Brynn Koocher and Anna Leschyshyn made the CHA All-Academic Team for the fourth time in their career. All three won two CHA championships with the Orange. Bellefontaine completed a postgraduate certificate program in intercollegiate athletic advising and support and her undergraduate degree in communication and rhetorical studies, while Koocher graduated with her undergraduate degree in psychology and Leschyshyn earned her degree in communication and rhetorical studies in May 2023.

Six skaters are on the CHA All-Academic Team for the third time in their career, including senior Mae Batherson (health and exercise science) and juniors Kambel Beacom (sport management), Hannah Johnson (medicinal chemistry), Sarah Thompson (sport management), Amelia Van Vliet (dual major in psychology and forensic science) and Tatum White (medicinal chemistry).

Sophomores Erin Brousseau (triple major in international relations, policy studies and applied data analytics), Terryn Mozes (health and exercise science) and Madison Primeau (communication and rhetorical studies) earned the honor for the second year in a row.

First-year Orange Maya D'Arcy (selected studies in education), Gabrielle Dougherty (sport analytics), Charlotte Hallett (dual major in forensic science and arts & sciences) and Mik Todd (human development and family science) all made the team in their rookie season at 'Cuse.
