
Three Veterans Elected Captains

Seniors Tatum White and Rayla Clemons and graduate student Marielle McHale will wear letters for the 2023-24 Orange ice hockey team. White will serve as the team captain after being an alternate captain last season. Clemons will lead as an alternate captain for the second season in a row and McHale will wear an A in her sixth season with the program. The trio was part of Syracuse's 2022 College Hockey America (CHA) regular season and tournament championships.

A native of Kingston, Ont., White has scored 34 points, including 12 goals and 22 assists, in 84 games at Syracuse. She is the second-leading returning scorer after tallying 14 points (five goals and nine assists) in 2022-23. The forward ranks ninth in program history in faceoff wins with 478 victories in the circle. White is a medicinal chemistry major earned 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors. She is a three-time American Hockey Coaches Association All-America Scholar and has earned College Hockey America CHA All-Academic Team and ACC Academic Honor Roll honors every year at Syracuse.

Clemons returns for her second season as an alternate captain. The forward has tallied 26 points, including 10 goals and 16 assists, in 83 games in her three-year Orange tenure. Clemons had a personal-best 11 points (four goals and seven assists) last season. As a sophomore, the Franklin, Mich. native finished fifth in the country in short-handed goals. A medicinal chemistry, Clemons earned CHA All-Academic Team honors in 2021 and 2022.

In her sixth season in the Orange program, McHale will serve as an alternate captain. McHale, who redshirted the 2019-20 season due to injury, has scored 19 points (seven goals and 12 assists) in 131 games at Syracuse. A native of Clifton Park, N.Y., McHale earned her undergraduate degree in communications and rhetorical studies and is pursuing a master's degree in higher education and a Certificate of Advanced Study in intercollegiate athletic advising and support. She is a five-time CHA All-Academic Team honoree.
