Syracuse senior Kamile Kralikaite and her Lithuanian pair partner Ieva Adomaviciute secured a spot for their country in the 2024 Olympics in the women's pair event. The duo finished 10th in the at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia to earned the spot on the world's biggest stage next summer.
Â
Kralikaite and Adomaviciute came from behind in the final stretch of the race to pass Italy and Czech Republic to finish fourth in the women's pair B final and 10th overall at the World Championship. The top 11 boats in the event qualified for the Olympics.
Â
"It was so stressful when we were in sixth because we needed to be at least fifth in that race," Kralikaite recalled. "And then on the last probably 15 strokes we take Italy and we take Czech Republic – it felt like a miracle, like someone just pushed us into the finish. Going sixth for the whole race and then pushing yourself more and more to get your bow ball across the line not last – to get that ticket (to the Olympics) – it was very, very exciting."
Â
In July, Kralikaite won the U23 World Championship with Orange teammate Martyna Kazlauskaite in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Kralikaite rowed for Syracuse's 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference champion varsity eight that finished eighth at the 2023 NCAA Championship. It was the first varsity eight ACC title in program history. Adomaviciute, an accomplished international rower who has won multiple gold medals on the world stage, rowed collegiately at Washington State.
