#2 Orange Defeat Clemson, Claim ACC Regular-Season Title

CLEMSON, South Carolina – No. 2 Syracuse defeated Clemson, 15-6, on Saturday for its ninth-straight win. With the victory and Boston College's loss at Virginia, the Orange earn their first outright ACC regular-season title, improving their league record to 8-0.
The 'Cuse defense held its opponent to less than 10 goals for the third-consecutive game, lowering the team goals-against average to 9.68. Goalkeeper Delaney Sweitzer recorded six ground balls, four caused turnovers and four saves in the victory. On the offensive end, Payton Rowley tied her career high with four goals, and Emma Tyrrell had six points on three goals and three assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Syracuse (12-3) never trailed in the contest. With the score tied at 1-1, Olivia Adamson scored back-to-back goals to spark the Orange on an 8-0 scoring run that gave Syracuse a 9-1 lead with 11:15 to play in the second quarter.
Caitlin McElwee ended the Clemson (9-6, 2-6) scoring drought of more than 20 minutes and Shannon Brazier followed with her first of the day, but Natalie Smith found the back of the net with 44 seconds on the clock to send the Orange to the locker room with a 10-3 lead.
Syracuse outscored the Tigers, 2-1, in the third quarter and a 3-0 scoring run in the fourth helped the Orange to a 15-6 victory.
OF NOTE
Adamson finished with four points on three goals, including the 100th of her career, and an assist. Tyrrell continued her stellar performance of late. She is averaging 5.7 points per game in her last five contests. Defensively, Katie Goodale recorded four ground balls, two caused turnovers and four ground balls.
The Orange won 17-of-23 draw controls, including 10 from Kate Mashewske. The Tigers entered the game ranked 12th in the nation in draw controls per game and draw control percentage.
