#3 Syracuse Loses to #2 Boston College in NCAA Semifinals

CARY, North Carolina – After a comeback effort in the fourth quarter fell short, the No. 3 Syracuse women's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 2 Boston College in the NCAA semifinals, 10-7, on Friday night at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The Eagles' Rachel Clark scored a game-high five goals and added one assist to lead the Boston College offense. Mckenna Davis passed out four assists and scored once, while Emma LaPinto scored twice.
Natalie Smith led the Orange in points with three on two goals and one assist. Emma Ward contributed two goals, and Olivia Adamson produced one goal and one assist to round out the Orange performers with multiple points in the outing.
How It Happened
The Orange got on the board first after Maddy Baxter netted one just 25 seconds into the game. Following a goal from Ward that gave Syracuse a 2-1 advantage at the 9:46-mark, the Eagles scored two goals to finish the first quarter and own a 3-2 edge after 15 minutes.
In the beginning 5:14 of the second period, Boston College converted three goals to go on a run of five unanswered. With 6:47 left in the second quarter, Smith got one by the keeper and effectively ended Syracuse's 18:59-scoring drought. Just 33 seconds later, Adamson slotted in a feed from Smith to cut 'Cuse's deficit to two. The squads went into the halftime intermission with the Eagles in front, 6-4. Delaney Sweitzer had a stifling seven saves in the first half to help the Orange stay close. In the third quarter, Syracuse allowed three goals and was unable to score themselves.
The Orange opened the fourth quarter scoring as Smith scored her second goal of the evening with 11:51 remaining, snapping a Syracuse scoring drought of 24:23. Less than two minutes later, Gracie Britton netted one off a dish from Emma Tyrrell to bring the Orange within three of the Eagles, 9-6. With 8:56 left on the clock, Ward scored a solo goal that cut the 'Cuse deficit to two. SU had a few chances to score in the closing minutes of the competition but were unable to convert.

Katie Goodale is now the sole leader in program history for career caused turnovers with 102 throughout her Orange career.
