The Orange lost at SMU on Thursday, 4-1, in the ACC opener for both programs. The Mustangs tallied three second-half goals to pull away. Junior midfielder Erin Flurey scored for Syracuse on a penalty kick.
Flurey and junior midfielder Ashley Rauch share team goal-scoring honors with three scores each this season. Junior forward Ava Uribe has a squad-best eight points. Junior goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch owns a 1.08 goals-against-average and an .821 save percentage.
Virginia Tech Status
The Hokies won at Clemson on Thursday, 2-1. It represented Virginia Tech's first defeat of Clemson since 2014. After a scoreless first half, Virginia Tech scored twice after the intermission. Anna Weir and Taylor Lewin earned back-to-back tallies. The host Tigers narrowed the gap in the 73rd minute but the Hokies held on the rest of the way.
Natalie Mitchell has a squad best three assists and seven points in nine games. Senior Lauren Harbrove (0.63 gaa., .800 save %) has started all nine contests for Virginia Tech.
