Syracuse University women's ice hockey netminder Allie Kelley has been named among the top goalies in the country as she was announced to the HCA Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year Watch List. The Hockey Commissioner's Association (HCA) announced its Watch List Tuesday afternoon.
Kelley, who is poised to become the NCAA's all-time career saves leader, has made 736 stops this season, entering a three-game week with a .923 save percentage. Within Atlantic Hockey America (AHA), Kelley leads the league in total saves, racking up 132 more than the next-closest netminder (Maggie Hatch, Robert Morris).Â
Last week at No. 4 Minnesota Duluth, Kelley made 54 saves, which is the 12th-most by a goalie in a single game this season. The New Berne, New York native has the fifth-best save percentage in the AHA (.923) and ranks second in the conference with a 33.45 saves per game average, trailing only Hatch.
Across her career, Kelley has made 4,089 saves between her time at Syracuse, Quinnipiac, and St. Anselm. She is one of just two goalies in NCAA NC history to make at least 4,000 saves. She is just 79 saves shy of breaking the all-time record of 4,167 set by Lovisa Selander (RPI).
Kelley and the Orange return to Tennity Ice Pavilion Tuesday night to continue a busy home January as Syracuse hosts No. 6 Cornell for a 6 p.m. puck drop on FloHockey. The week continues at Tennity with a pair of AHA games against No. 9 Penn State on Friday and Saturday. Puck drop is slated for 6 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, on FloHockey.
