SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Coming off a series sweep, Syracuse University women's ice hockey added another sweep to its weekend as the Orange grabbed all four Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) weekly awards. The AHA announced its weekly award winners Monday afternoon.
Jackson Kinsler was named AHA Forward of the Week while Sami Gendron was tabbed AHA Defenseman of the Week. Allie Kelley was picked as the AHA Goaltender of the Week with Stella Costabile earning AHA Rookie of the Week plaudits.
Syracuse (10-20-0, 8-8-0 AHA) bested Lindenwood twice at Tennity Ice Pavilion, topping the Lions 5-2 on Friday before shutting out the visitors 5-0 on Saturday to wrap up the home schedule for the regular season.
Kinsler had a career weekend, tallying six points on three goals and three assists. On Friday, the Madison, Wisconsin native had a hand in four of the five Syracuse goals, scoring twice while adding two assists to her line. On Saturday, the sophomore notched another goal and an assist. Kinsler was highly efficient with the puck, scoring three times on four shots alongside a pair of powerplay goals.
Gendron enjoyed an outstanding week on the blue line, helping limit Lindenwood to just two goals on the weekend, including Saturday's shutout. The Rockland, Ontario product accounted for three blocks this weekend, while adding five points on offense, scoring twice while dishing out three assists. Gendron is on a three-game scoring streak as well.
Continuing a stellar run in goalie, Kelley allowed just two goals on the weekend, picking up her third shutout of the year on Saturday. The New Byrne, New York tallied 58 saves, stopping 28 on Friday before securing the Senior Day shutout with 30 on Saturday. Kelley finished the weekend with a 96.7 save percentage. Kelley has not allowed more than two goals in any game over the last two weekends and in five of the last six AHA games.
Playing wing opposite Kinsler, Costabile was a threat all weekend on offense, tallying four points on two goals and two assists, spreading the points evenly across both games. She scored on half of her shots this weekend with a goal in each game to help the Orange win their third-straight AHA contest at home.
The Orange hit the road this weekend for a series at Robert Morris in Clearview Arena. Puck drop on Friday is set for 7 p.m. before things wrap up on Saturday with a 3 p.m. start in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
