NEW HAVEN, Connecticut --Â Syracuse takes on Brown in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Friday, May 9. Opening draw in New Haven, Connecticut on the campus of Yale University is set for 4 p.m.

ORANGE UPDATE
Syracuse earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after posting a 9-8 record this season. The Orange once again faced one of the toughest schedules in the nation. Syracuse took on seven of the eight top seeds in this year's NCAA Tournament, including the top three. Overall, Syracuse played 12 games against tournament teams this season, posing a 5-7 record in those contests.

Six members of the Orange earned All-ACC honors. Emma Muchnick was a first-team All-ACC selection, while Emma Ward was voted to the second team. Kaci Benoit, Danny Guyette, Caroline Trinkaus and Coco Vandiver were voted to the All-ACC Third Team.

'CUSE IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
The Orange are making their 22nd appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse has an all-time record of 28-21 in tournament play. Syracuse will play in the first round for the first time since 2022 after earning first-round byes in 2023 and 2024. Friday's game is the first true NCAA road game for the Orange since 2022.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown also earned an at-large bid after posting a 10-6 overall record, including a 4-3 mark in Ivy League play. The Bears, led by former Syracuse assistant coach Katrina Dowd, lost to Princeton in the league tournament semifinals, 17-16.

Senior Annie Burton leads the Brown offense with 70 points on 17 goals and 53 assists. Both are career highs for the first-team All-Ivy League selection. Greta Criqui earned a spot on the All-Ivy League Second Team after posting a team-best 51 goals. Starting goalkeeper Claire Mahoney has posted an 8.95 goals-against average and a .465 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY
Syracuse and Brown will meet for just the second time and the first time since the 2005 season. The Orange won the only previous meeting between the squads, 19-6, on March 30, 2005 in the JMA Wireless Dome.

Monica Joines and Meghan O'Connell combined for five of Syracuse's first six goals in the first 15 minutes. Both players finished with four goals each. With the Orange leading 6-4, Syracuse ended the half on a 6-0 scoring run that sent 'Cuse to the locker room at halftime with a 12-4 advantage.

Brown opened the second half scoring before the Orange offense continued to click, scoring seven-straight goals on their way to the victory.

UP NEXT
The winner of Friday's game will take on either UAlbany or Yale in the second round on Sunday, May 11. The Orange faced both teams during the regular season. Syracuse defeated the Great Danes, 21-9, in the season opener, and lost to Yale, 13-10 in April.
