Syracuse University alumna Kayla Alexander captured her third international medal with the Canadian Senior National Team this weekend when Canada earned bronze at the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup in Centro de Deportes Colectivos, Chile. Team Canada earned a 76-75 win in double overtime to secure a spot on the podium for the second time in three years. Alexander averaged 10.3 points per game in the tournament en route to being named to the AmeriCup All-Star Second Team.Â
Alexander, who's Syracuse jersey was enshrined in the JMA Wireless Dome last December, is a two-time Olympian for Canada and has been playing in the Canada Basketball system since first representing her native country in 2008 at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship. She scored 13 points and added 13 rebounds, eight of which were defensive boards, in the bronze medal game against Argentina on Sunday.Â
While at Syracuse, Alexander was the catalyst that propelled the Orange to the national spotlight. She led Syracuse to four postseason appearances including an NCAA berth, just the third in program history at the time, as a senior. She was an Associated Press All-American and graduated as the all-time leader in career points with 2,024. She finished her SU tenure third in rebounds (970) and is the career leader in blocks (350), field goals (736) and free throws made (552).Â
Additionally, Angelica Velez made her international debut as a member of Puerto Rico's senior team where she averaged 3.1 points and 1.1 rebounds per game where she helped PR place 6th overall in the FIBA Women's AmeriCup.Â
