Former Princeton rower and Austin Rowing Club head coach Astrid Wettstein joined the Syracuse women’s rowing coaching staff prior to the 2023-24 season. Wettstein was the head coach at the Austin Rowing Club for the past three years.

A four-year member of the Princeton rowing team, Wettstein was part of four NCAA Championship regatta teams, including third place finishes in 2010 and 2013 and fourth place finishes in 2011 and 2012, and two Ivy League/EAWRC championships teams (2011 and 2013). Wettstein rowed in the Princeton second varsity eights that won three Ivy League/EAWRC championships (2010, 2011, 2012) and finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championship in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and the varsity four that placed eighth in 2013. In the fall of 2010, Wettstein rowed in the Head of the Charles Championship 8 that won the gold medal.

During her tenure at the Austin Rowing Club, Wettstein served as the novice girls head coach for one year and was promoted to varsity girls head coach in 2021. As the varsity girls head coach, she led the program to its best performances in program history, including the 2022 Head of the Charles U17 4+ silver medal and the first Youth Nationals varsity eight qualifier.

Wettstein began her coaching career in 2014 at Craftsbury Outdoor Center in Vermont as a coach and junior head coach, working with rowers ranging in ability and age (13 to 60+ years old). In 2015 she joined the University of Denver Club Rowing team as an assistant coach for the 2015-16 season.

Since 2021, Wettstein has served as a council member for the USRowing Central Youth Council in the central region. Wettstein, who is US Rowing Level 2 certified, earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Princeton University in 2013.
