Syracuse 97, Presbyterian 56
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse head coach #Quentin Hillsman# won his 50th career game as the Orange defeated Presbyterian College, 97-56, on Monday, November 16. Syracuse's 97 points was the most the Orange has scored in the Carrier Dome and highest total since it defeated Niagara 93-54 in 2008.
The offense powered the Orange to the 41-point victory, as six players scored in double-digits. Senior forward #Vionca Murray#, senior guard #Nicole Michael#, and freshman center #Kayla Alexander# each led the team with 14 points each, while junior guard #Erica Morrow#, sophomore guard #Lynnae Lampkins#, and senior forward #Juanita Ward# accounted for 36 points.
The Syracuse defense was a contributing factor to the win, as it forced 28 turnovers and out-rebounded Presbyterian, 33-29. Alexander pulled down a team-high eight boards in her second collegiate game.
A 3-pointer by Lampkins sparked the Orange on a 17-3 run beginning at the 15:25 mark of the first half to give SU the 25-13 lead. After going scoreless in more than four minutes, PC's Kristen Stevens completed a 3-point play to cut the deficit to nine. However, Syracuse continued to build on its lead and held PC to only four points in the final three minutes of the half to keep the 18-point lead, 43-25, going into the locker room.
Murray opened up the scoring in the second half as the Orange went on a 14-0 run and did not allow a PC basket until the 15:40 mark. Syracuse took control for the remainder of the game and reached a 48-point lead following consecutive free throw shots by freshman guard #Carmen Tyson-Thomas# with 3:18 remaining in the game.
Presbyterian's Stevens, freshman guard Dria David, and junior guard Amanda Mills led the team with nine points each.
Syracuse will continue its home stand when it hosts Alabama State at Manley Field House on Thursday, November 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available free to the public.
