
Orange Opens BIG EAST Play at UConn

STORRS, Conn. – The sixth-ranked Syracuse women's lacrosse team goes on the road to open BIG EAST play at Connecticut on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Orange has either won or shared the last two regular-season conference titles and was the unanimous choice to claim the 2009 title in a preseason vote by the league's head coaches.
Saturday's game will be broadcast live on WJPZ 89.1FM in the Syracuse area and on Orange All Access on SUathletics.com.
ORANGE IN BIG EAST OPENERS
Syracuse has an all-time record of 1-7 in BIG EAST openers. Last season the Orange defeated Notre Dame, 16-13, for its first win in its first league game of the season.
THE SERIES
The meeting between Syracuse and Connecticut is the 11th all-time between the two schools. The Orange has won all 11 of the previous meetings.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Connecticut is led by Kiersten Tupper, who has tallied a team-high 24 points this season. She also leads the squad with 14 assists, and ranks second in the BIG EAST with 2.33 assists per game. Whitney Michele is the Huskies' leading goal scorer in 2009. She has found the back of the net 15 times in six games. Jenna Moulton has started five games in goal this season and has a 14.81 goals-against average and .361 save percentage. Anna Wallingford has played in four contests, making one start. She has a 10.48 goals-against average and a .472 save percentage.
NEWS AND NOTES
Syracuse opens BIG EAST play on the road for the third consecutive season ... The Orange has won its last nine BIG EAST regular-season games, dating back to the 2007 season. After losing its league opener at Georgetown, SU won its last four BIG EAST games of the season. In 2008, the Orange posted a 5-0 mark in conference action.
