Last Time Out
Senior guard Erica Morrow and sophomore guard Carmen Tyson-Thomas each netted a season-high 16 points to lead Syracuse (3-0) to a 90-36 win against Long Island (2-1) on Nov. 22 in the Carrier Dome.
The Orange had 10 players score in the win, including four in double figures. Morrow was 5-16 from the floor, including a pair of threes while dishing out a team-best six assists. Tyson-Thomas notched her fourth-career double-double with 16 points on 5-12 shooting, including a trio of threes while pulling in a team-best 10 rebounds.
Syracuse held a 49-22 advantage in bench points, thanks in part to 13 points by redshirt freshman forward Shakeya Leary and 12 by freshman guard La'Shay Taft. Leary added nine rebounds while all of Taft's points came from behind the arc.
SU made more than 10 3-Pointers (12) for the first time since making 11 at -/rv Rutgers on Feb. 21, 2010. The Orange scored 90 Points for the first time since scoring 93 vs. Wagner on Dec. 2, 2009 Syracuse also held its opponent to under 30 percent shooting (.236) in a game since it held -/rv Rutgers to 29.4 percent on Feb. 21, 2010.
Undefeated
Syracuse is 3-0 for the third consecutive season. A Orange victory against New Hampshire will give SU a 4-0 record for the third straight year.
November
The Orange likes the month of November. SU has won its last 11 games in November since Nov. 26, 2008.
Non-Conference Success
Syracuse has won 31 consecutive non-conference home games (25 in the Carrier Dome). SU's last non-conference loss at home came on Dec. 22, 2006 against Canisius (56-43). The Orange has also won 23 straight regular-season non-conference games, back to Nov. 26, 2008.
Ms. Double-Double
Tyson-Thomas has recorded two double-doubles already this season. The sophomore registered a double-double in the season-opener with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Tyson-Thomas notched her fourth career with 16 points and 10 rebounds in SU's last game. The Philadelphia native is leading the Orange in points (12.7) and rebounds (9.0).
In the Center
Center Kayla Alexander is off to a stellar sophomore campaign. The 2009-10 BIG EAST All-Rookie Team honoree is second on the team in points (12.3), field-goal percentage (.601) and rebounds (7.7), while leading the Orange in blocks (3.0). The Milton, Ontario native registered her second career double-double in the season-opener with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
I Of the Storm
Guard Isaia Hemingway has made an immediate impact after transferring from Georgia Tech and sitting out last season. The junior leads the Orange in field-goal percentage (.619) and is third in points (11.0) and tied for third rebounds (6.3). The Newark, N.J. native scored 17 points in the season-opener.
Senior Leadership
Morrow is showing why she is the leader on the floor. The senior leads the Orange in assists (4.7) and steals (3.7) and is fourth in scoring (10.3). She recorded 16 points, six assists and a career-tying six steals in SU's last game.
Rebounding Is What We Do
The Orange has made rebounding a habit since head coach Quentin Hillsman took the reins of the program. Three of the top four rebounding performances in Syracuse history have come during the last three seasons. SU set a season record with 1,638 rebounds last year. SU's 2008-09 total of 1,366 ranks third and its 2007-08 total of 1,347 is fourth on Syracuse's single-season chart.
The Orange outrebounded 29 opponents in 2009-10, averaging 45.5 rebounds per game (first in the BIG EAST Conference), while grabbing 50-plus rebounds in 10 games. Syracuse was also first in the BIG EAST in offensive rebounds (17.9) and second in rebounding margin (+9.7). SU ended the season sixth in the NCAA in rebounding margin.
Syracuse has outrebounded all three of its opponents this season by an average of 20.7. SU has grabbed 65 rebounds against Northeastern and 52 against Cornell. The Orange also registered 37 and 23 offensive rebounds, respectively.
Scouting New Hampshire
New Hampshire (1-3) is led by Denise Beliveau and Cari Reed. Beliveau leads the Wildcats in scoring (10.3) and rebounds (6.7). Reed is second on the team in scoring (10.0).
Despite making a late push and outscoring its opponent in the second half, New Hampshire couldn't overcome a 17-point first half deficit, losing at Holy Cross, 78-67, on Nov. 23. Beliveau led UNH with a season-high 16 points and 13 rebounds. Reed was New Hampshire's other double-digit scorer, finishing with 13 points.
UNH head coach Maureen Magarity, is the youngest Division I head coach, men's or women's, in the country.
The Wildcats are making 43.3 percent (87-201).
Beliveau was named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team.
Series Notes
This season marks the second consecutive season the two teams have met on the hardwood. Syracuse leads the seven-game series, 4-3.
