
Orange Comeback Not Enough At Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Seventh-ranked Syracuse's comeback bid came up just short in a 6-5 loss to No. 15 Notre Dame on Sunday, April 11 in South Bend, Ind. The Orange had a chance to tie the game with two shots in the final 35 seconds, but couldn't find the back of the net.
Trailing 6-0 at halftime, freshman Michelle Tumolo started the Orange comeback with a free-position goal at the 26:05 mark of the second half. Freshman Tegan Brown assisted on junior Tee Ladouceur's behind-the-back goal, before scoring on an assist from senior Christina Dove to cut the lead to 6-3 with 13:00 left to play. Brown then found Jackie DePetris in front of the net, who put her shot in the goal, and senior Halley Quillinan's goal on an assist from Ladouceur cut the lead to one with 11:34 on the clock. Both teams had scoring chances, but couldn't find the back of the net, setting up Syracuse's final possession of the game. The Fighting Irish turned the ball over in its offensive zone, giving the Orange the ball with 35.7 seconds remaining. On the ensuing possession, Dove fired a shot wide, and Brown's shot with 19 seconds left was saved by Notre Dame goalkeeper Ellie Hilling to secure the Fighting Irish's win.
Notre Dame (8-4, 4-1) controlled the first half, shutting out the Orange, 6-0. Gina Scioscia led the way for the Fighting Irish with two goals and an assist. Junior goalkeeper Liz Hogan kept Syracuse (7-4, 2-1) within striking distance, recording six first-half saves.
Brown finished with a goal and two assists, while Ladouceur had a goal and an assist. Dove recorded an assist, and had her string of consecutive games played with a goal snapped at 50.
Both teams registered 26 shots on goal, while Notre Dame held a 13-10 advantage in ground balls. The Fighting Irish also won 7-of-13 draws. Hogan recorded 10 saves, marking the 17th time she has reached double figures in a game during her career. Hilling made six saves for Notre Dame.
Syracuse returns to the Carrier Dome for a pair of home BIG EAST games next weekend when it hosts Loyola on Friday at 6 p.m. and Villanova on Sunday at 1 p.m.
