SU Faces Friars In BIG EAST First Round

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's basketball team (17-13, 6-10 BIG EAST) will be the No. 12 seed in the BIG EAST Championship and face No. 13 seeded Providence (13-16, 5-11 BIG EAST) in Friday's first round at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. The Orange and Friars will meet in a noon tip.
The game will be carried live on BIGEAST.tv. Fans can also listen to the action on ESPN 97.7 FM/1200 AM or on Orange All-Access at SUathletics.com with Brian Higgins on the call.
Quentin Hillsman's squad finished the regular season in a three-way tie for 10th in the conference standings with Cincinnati and Villanova. The Wildcats were awarded the No. 10 seed by virtue of being 2-0 against the other tied teams, while the Bearcats were 1-1 and the Orange 0-2.
The other first round games on Friday will feature No. 9 USF vs. No. 16 Pittsburgh (2 p.m.), No. 10 Villanova vs. No. 15 Seton Hall (6 p.m.) and No. 11 Cincinnati vs. No. 14 Marquette (8 p.m.).
The winner of the SU-PC matchup will face No. 5 West Virginia on Saturday at noon, and the winner of that game will take on No. 4 Georgetown in Sunday's noon quarterfinal.
The Orange beat the Friars in the regular season matchup, 80-54, on Jan. 31 at Alumni Hall. Iasia Hemingway led five SU players in double figures that night with 24 points.
