The No. 12 Syracuse men's cross country team claimed a first place finish at the Dartmouth Invitational this morning with a dominating eight harriers placing in the top-10 running against Dartmouth and Middleburry. The No. 9 women's team finished in third place at the second invitational of the season after competing against UConn, Middlebury, No. 3 Georgetown and Dartmouth.
Junior Joe Whelan led the Orange in the men's 8k run, finishing second overall with a time of 24:50.10. Junior Robert Molke (24:50.12) and sophomore Jon Squeri (24:51.08) finished in third and fourth place, respectively. In sixth place was sophomore Andrew Palmer (24:58.31)and sophomore Max Straneva (25:02.16) finished in seventh. Three freshmen rounded out the top-10: Andrew Bennison (25:02.41), Joe Kush (25:04.63), and Juris Silenieks (25:04.93).
Finishing in 12th to 16th place was sophomore Reed Kamyszek (25:05.71), Griff Graves (25:05.78), David Wilson (25:07.63), Ryan Urie (25:13.40) and Jon Aziz (25.13.82). Redshirt freshman Jace Lowry ran to a 31st place finish at 26:27.69 with senior Zach Rivers right behind him in 32nd at 26:34.81.
Senior Sarah Pagano was the top-finisher for the women, completing her first race of 2012 in 21:38.70 in seventh place. Junior Alexandra Clinton finished in 11th place with a time of 22:00.10. Sophomore Jessie Petersen (22:12.40) and freshmen Emily Nist (22:16.80) finished back-to-back in the 15 and 16 spots. In 18th place was junior Erin Cawley (22:28.30) followed by junior Kimberly Spano (22:28.50) in 19th and freshman Meredith Speakman (22:31.00) in 20th.
Junior Lauren Kersjes ran to a 26th place finish at 22:42.60. Sophomore Katherine Fleischer finished in 27th place at 22:42.60. Finishing from 29th to 32nd place was sophomore Molly Malone (22:51.70), freshman Angelica Peck (22:55.10), freshman Margo Malone (23:01.80) and junior Brenna Symoniak (23:06.80). Freshman Katie Kinkead (23:26.40) finished in 38th place and sophomore Katie Weisenburger (23:33.60) ran to a 43rd place finish. Freshman Beth Wright (24:19.50) finished in 51st.
The next race for the Orange is the Toledo Bubble Buster on Sept. 21st.
