
Nelson, Herb Named Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Senior Andrew Nelson (Geneva, Ill.) of the men's track and field team and senior Kristina Herb (Fairport, NY) of the women's rowing team are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of March 4, 2013.
Nelson is a distance runner for the men's track and field team. He set his PR in the mile this past weekend at the IC4A Championship in Boston with a time of 4:10.76. At the BIG EAST Championship this season, Nelson set his PR in the 1000m race with a time of 2:30.79, placing fifth. He took second in the 1000m race at the Penn State National earlier this season. Â Nelson is majoring in psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences. He has been honored on the 2011-12 BIG EAST All-Academic team as well as named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
In the fall season, Herb was the coxswain for the varsity eight that placed fourth out of 55 crews at the Princeton Chase. Â The V8 completed the 3-mile head race course in a time of 14:14.880. In her junior season, Herb became the first coxswain of a SU varsity boat to win a BIG EAST title in seven years when she coxed the varsity four to gold at the BIG EAST Championship. She also coxed the Varsity Four Boat that finished second at the BIG EAST Double Dual. Herb is dual majoring in Information Management and Technology in the School of Information Studies and Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises with a minor in Finance in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. She has been a member of the 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 BIG EAST All-Academic Teams. Herb has also been honored on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for six consecutive semester beginning in the spring of 2010.
Nelson and the men's track and field team open up the outdoor season on March 29th at the Stanford Invitational. Â Herb and the women's rowing team head to Clemson on Saturday, March 16th to kick of the 2013 season.
