PROVIDENCE, R.I. -Â No. 24/21 Syracuse's Brittney Sykes and Kayla Alexander were both honored by the BIG EAST Conference on Tuesday as it announced its women's basketball weekly awards for the final week of the regular season. Sykes was named Freshman of the Week for the third time, while Alexander was named to the honor roll for the fifth time.

Sykes averaged 11.7 points and 7.3 assists in three games for the Orange. She recorded the second double-double of her career with 11 points and 11 rebounds last Tuesday at No. 2 Notre Dame. She followed that up with an eight-point, nine-rebound, two-steal performance on Saturday vs. Villanova, and on Monday, tallied 16 points, four rebounds and two steals to help lead No. 24/21 Syracuse to a 68-57 win vs. No. 13/14 Louisville.

Sykes' third BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor ties here with Connecticut's Breanna Stewart for second-most in the conference behind Notre Dame's Jewell Loyd. On the season, the Newark, N.J. native is averaging 9.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals in 29 games, 28 of which she has started.

Alexander, SU's all-time leading scorer, closed her final regular season by averaging 20.7 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 49 percent in three games. She had 24 points and 16 rebounds at No. 2 Notre Dame last Tuesday and followed that performance with 22 points and 11 boards vs. Villanova on Saturday. The back-to-back double-doubles gave her 11 on the season and 30 for her career, the most of any active BIG EAST player. She finished the week with 16 points and six rebounds in SU's win over the No. 13/14 Cardinals.

This is Alexander's seventh BIG EAST weekly award of the season. She was named Player of the Week on Nov. 19 and Dec. 10, and this is her fifth time being named to the honor roll. She leads SU with 17.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game this season.

The Orange's (23-6, 11-5) win on Monday vs. Louisville clinched Quentin Hillsman's squad the No. 3 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn., the Orange's best seeding in 25 years. It will play in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. on ESPNU against the winner of Villanova vs. Georgetown/Providence.
