HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Syracuse cross country team competes for the first time this season at the Harry Lang Invitational, hosted by Colgate University, on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m.
Last year both the men's and women's team took first place (out of 11 teams) at the Harry Lang Invitational. For the SU men, it was the start of a three-race winning streak to begin the 2012 season. In total, the men's team had four first place finishes last season, the women winning only the Harry Lang.
The men's team was picked to finish ninth in the nation in the USTFCCCA preseason poll and found themselves in the top spot of the Northeast regional poll. The ACC coaches also predicted SU to claim the ACC title in the program's inaugural season in the conference. The squad comes off a BIG EAST championship last season and returns the individual BIG EAST champion. SU finished in third place in the Northeast regional race and 15th in the NCAA championship race.
The women's team ranked fifth in both the Northeast regional poll and the ACC coaches poll and received votes in the national rankings. The Orange had a sixth place finish in both the BIG EAST championship and the Northeast regional.
