SYRACUSE, N.Y.--The Orange ice hockey team and RIT are set to rematch on Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. in Tennity Ice Pavilion. Last friday a last-minute goal gave the Tigers its first win over Syracuse in program history and the Orange looks for redemption at home.
RIT NOTES
• The Tigers are 10-11-2 this season and 5-3-1 in College Hockey America play. RIT's CHA losses came against Mercyhurst and Robert Morris and they tied with Lindenwood.
• Kolbee McCrea and Kourtney Kunichika are the leading scorers with 15 points each. McCrea has scored 11 goals (team-best) and four assists and Kunichika has six goals and nine assists. Last Friday, both Kunichika and McCrea scored a goal against the Orange to maintain their top-spots on the stats sheet.
• Three goalies have seen action this year but Ali Binnington has played the majority of minutes for the Tigers. She has a 2.20 GAA and .928 save percentage and is even on the season with an 8-8-2 record. Jetta Rackleff was the starting goalie on Friday and has a 3.49 GAA and .895 save percentage.
• There are only two RIT skaters with a positive rating on the season, both with a plus one on the season. As a team they have a minus 81 rating, compared to Syracuse's plus one rating. They have been outscored by their opponents 66-50 whereas SU is ahead of its opponents, 56-49. On average, RIT allows 2.9 goals per game while the Orange holds its opponents to 2.2 per game.
Â
SU DROPS FIRST AGAINST RIT
• The Orange lost its first contest in four games on Friday when RIT notched a last-minute goal to take a 4-3 win in the first meeting between the teams this season.
• Syracuse had an early lead in the first period but RIT was never far behind, and took its first lead at the end of the second period. The Orange scored the equalizer before going into the second intermission and held off the Tigers for most of the third period but RIT was able to score a shorthanded goal to win the game.
• Jessica Sibley had two points in the game, assisting on the first two SU goals. Nicole Renault assisted on a goal to increase her point scoring streak to three games.
Â
SU SHUTS OUT COLGATE
• Syracuse had its first shutout of the season thanks to an impressive performance in net by Jenesica Drinkwater and some heads-up defense by the Orange.
• Drinkwater made 24 saves including eight while short a skater to earn her fifth career shutout. The SU defense blocked 12 shots, six while a man-down to help prevent the Raiders from scoring any goals.
• Melissa Piacentini opened scoring and ultimately had the game-winning-goal when she took a hard shot from the left side that bounced off the goalie's pad and hopped over her back and into the net.
• Eleanor Haines scored the lead-extender, her first collegiate goal, when she rebounded a shot taken by fellow freshman Laurence Porlier.
• The Orange went 1-5 on the power play which improved its conversion percentage to 18.7, the seventh-best mark in the nation.
ORANGE BY NUMBERS
